The simplicity of a soundbar, with true stereo sound

REN connects to the TV over HDMI ARC, switches on with it and responds to its remote, but the sound comes from two separate speakers with 5.25-inch woofers and 100 W RMS.

A soundbar is convenient, but it puts both channels in a single cabinet under the screen. Kanto built REN for people who want the same simplicity with the separation and presence of a stereo pair: two bookshelf speakers placed either side of the TV, with a single HDMI connection.

The system is sold as a pair: an active speaker, with the Class D amplification with DSP and all the inputs, and a passive speaker, connected with the supplied speaker wire. Each speaker is 17.8 cm wide, 21.5 cm deep and 27.7 cm tall; Kanto mentions hand-built cabinets and magnetic grilles, two of which come in the box.

The TV, music and every other source in one system

Over HDMI ARC with CEC, REN switches on with the TV and responds to its remote. For TVs without ARC there is the TOSLINK optical input, up to 24 bit/96 kHz, as well as the USB-C input for a computer. A turntable with a preamp, a player or a console connects to RCA or the 3.5 mm AUX input, and a phone via Bluetooth 5.3 with AAC.

For films, Vocal Boost makes dialogue clearer and Night Mode tames bass and sudden effects, which helps in the evening. The supplied remote controls the system, and a 5 V, 1 A USB output charges a phone.

5.25-inch woofers and silk dome tweeters

Each speaker has a 1-inch silk dome tweeter and a 5.25-inch aluminium concave woofer. Class D amplification with DSP delivers 100 W RMS and 200 W peak power, with a frequency response of 50 Hz – 22 kHz.

When you connect a subwoofer, REN automatically redirects the frequencies below 80 Hz to it and the speakers concentrate on the mids and highs at a higher volume. Underneath, a 1/4-20 threaded insert allows mounting on stands.

Frequently asked questions

How does it connect to the TV?

With an HDMI cable to the TV's ARC port. With CEC, REN switches on with the TV and responds to its remote. Alternatively, you can use the optical input.

What do Vocal Boost and Night Mode do?

Vocal Boost makes dialogue easier to follow, and Night Mode reduces bass and sudden effects so that you can watch a film in the evening without raising the volume.

Can I add a subwoofer?

Yes, through the subwoofer output. REN automatically redirects the frequencies below 80 Hz to the subwoofer.

Can I play music from my phone?

Yes, via Bluetooth 5.3 with the AAC codec. The phone can also charge from the speaker's 5 V, 1 A USB output.
