Kanto Audio — Powered desktop speakers

Balanced sound, scaled to a desk

UKI is a compact stereo system, one active and one passive speaker, designed for the desk. Kanto tuned it for comfortable listening through a whole working day, with bi-amplification, USB-C, Bluetooth 5.3 and a subwoofer output that configures itself.

    In short100 W peak (50 W RMS total), class D bi-amplificationUSB-C 16 bit/48 kHz, Bluetooth 5.3, RCA11.2 x 11 x 16.5 cm, five finishes

On a desk, speakers sit close to the listener and play for hours. Kanto built UKI for exactly that: a rounded cabinet of 11.2 x 11 x 16.5 cm, with a 3/4-inch silk dome tweeter and a 3-inch paper cone woofer in each speaker, tuned for balance rather than sharpness.

Kanto describes UKI as compact bookshelf speakers with a distinctive clamshell design and speckled, stoneware-inspired finishes, for compact spaces and for people new to Hi-Fi. The cabinet is made of recycled plastic, and the rounded shape has an acoustic job: its rigid construction helps reduce unwanted resonance.

Two amplifier channels in every speaker

UKI is bi-amplified: the tweeter and the woofer of each speaker have their own class D amplifier channel, 9 W RMS per tweeter and 16 W RMS per woofer, which adds up to 50 W RMS in total and 100 W peak power. The stated frequency response is 80 Hz – 22 kHz.

Kanto tuned UKI for balance instead of sharpness, so that it stays comfortable through long listening sessions. A bass reflex port on the back of each speaker supports the low end.

Computer, phone and an analogue source

The back of the active speaker carries the RCA input, the USB-C audio input and the Bluetooth pairing button. Over USB-C the sound bypasses the computer's built-in DAC and is decoded by UKI, up to 16 bit/48 kHz. Bluetooth 5.3 covers the phone and the tablet; Kanto recommends keeping the source within 10 m. The Bluetooth connection does not stay active while another input is selected.

The subwoofer output switches on a 100 Hz filter automatically as soon as the cable is plugged in, so the speakers leave the deepest bass to the subwoofer. An L/R switch sets whether the active speaker stands on the left or on the right, and the 3.5 mm headphone jack is on the front panel.

    • LED: green for RCA, yellow for USB, blue for Bluetooth
    • The speakers are linked by a cable with a 4-pin connector
    • Power AC 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz; standby below 0.5 W

    Sized for a desk

Each speaker measures 11.2 x 11 x 16.5 cm (width x depth x height); with the volume knob, the active speaker is 12.1 cm deep. The active speaker weighs 1 kg, the passive one 0.9 kg.

For the best bass response, Kanto recommends at least 20-25 cm from the rear wall, and angling the speakers towards the listening position to avoid early reflections from the desk surface. The back has a 1/4″-20 threaded hole for mounting.

    • Desktop stands suggested by Kanto: SU2 (angled) and SP9 (elevated), sold separately
    • Subwoofer recommended by Kanto: Sub6 or Sub8

    Frequently asked questions

    Do I need an amplifier?

No. UKI is a powered system: the class D amplification sits in the active speaker, which drives the passive one through a cable with a 4-pin connector. Kanto warns not to connect the speaker terminals to the outputs of a stereo amplifier.

    Can I add a subwoofer?

Yes. The SUB OUT sends the signal to a powered subwoofer over a single RCA cable, and the 100 Hz filter switches on automatically when the cable is plugged in. Kanto recommends its Sub6 or Sub8 subwoofers.

What resolution does the USB-C input accept?

Up to 16 bit/48 kHz. On the computer, select “Uki by Kanto” as the playback device; if you hear noise over USB, Kanto recommends setting the source to 48 kHz or lower.

    What warranty does Kanto give?

Kanto gives a 2-year limited warranty, valid in the country of purchase.
