The same self-lit panel and the same alpha 11 AI Gen3 processor across the range. What changes is the size — and, at the top end, how hard it can push the light.

The first thing to know: C61LA is not one television but a range of six. The size you choose changes more than the number on the box, so it is worth reading what follows before you decide.
The shared part matters most. All six models use the same 4K OLED evo panel, where every pixel makes its own light and switches off completely when the scene calls for it. That is where the black comes from — not a backlit grey — and Pixel Dimming works at pixel level rather than across backlight zones. All six also carry the same LG alpha 11 AI 4K Gen3 processor with a dual AI engine, handling upscaling, tone mapping and picture modes, so a 42-inch and an 83-inch process the image identically.
The real difference is brightness. The 83 and 77-inch models add Brightness Booster Pro together with Hyper Radiant Color Tech and reach peak brightness up to 3.2x*. The 65, 55, 48 and 42-inch models use Brightness Booster, without a multiplier published by LG, on exactly the same OLED evo panel and with exactly the same processor. Two further differences exist, each explained in place below: the 42-inch audio system and the 83-inch mounting standard.
Black switches off rather than dimming
On a backlit screen, black is still a light the panel is trying to block. On OLED the pixel simply stops. In a night scene that means stars sit on black, not on a grey that lifts around them.
On top of that panel, the alpha 11 AI Gen3 adds Dynamic Tone Mapping Ultra and AI upscaling, and the picture accepts Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. For films, FILMMAKER MODE preserves the cadence and framing the director intended, and the Ambient variant adapts the picture to room light on models fitted with a light sensor.
At 83 and 77 inches, Brightness Booster Pro and Hyper Radiant Color Tech* push the highlights higher: LG states peak brightness up to 3.2 times* that of conventional OLED televisions, measured on a 3% window using internal measurements. That is a relative figure, not an absolute one — LG does not publish nits for this series, so you will not find an invented number here.

Gaming: four ports, not one
One thing marketing tends to shorten deserves to be said plainly. The panel is 120 Hz native, and 165 Hz is reached through variable refresh rate with a source able to deliver that signal — usually a suitable PC. It is not a 165 Hz panel and we will not tell you it is.
What matters in practice: all four HDMI ports carry 4K at 120 Hz with eARC, VRR, ALLM, QMS and QFT. There is no hunting for "the good port": two consoles and a PC can stay connected at once, without compromise. Add G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium compatibility, HGiG mapping for correct HDR in games, Dolby Vision for gaming at 4K 120 Hz, and ClearMR 10000 certification for motion clarity.
Game Optimizer and Game Dashboard gather in one place the settings you would otherwise hunt through menus, and NVIDIA GeForce NOW allows cloud gaming up to 4K 120 Hz HDR without a console. Subscription and gamepad are sold separately.
The sound inside the set, and the webOS platform
The television decodes Dolby Atmos and plays it through a virtual 11.1.2 up-mix handled by alpha 11 AI Sound Pro. The system is 40 W across 2.2 channels* — except on the 42-inch, which has 20 W across 2.0 channels*. That is enough for broadcast and series; for film a soundbar remains the natural next step, and WOW Orchestra makes the television speakers play together with a compatible LG soundbar instead of muting them.
The platform is webOS 26 with the AI Magic remote — point-and-scroll on screen and a dedicated AI button. AI Hub gathers personalisation in one place, and the picture and sound wizards help you tune settings by preference rather than by manual. The set connects to Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, Apple Home, Google Home and Matter devices through the ThinQ app.

What changes from one size to another
Three things differ across the six models. Every other specification — processor, HDR formats, ports, tuner, webOS — is identical.
83 and 77 inches
Brightness Booster Pro, peak brightness up to 3.2x, Hyper Radiant Color Tech. Audio 40 W, 2.2 channels. At 83 inches, 400 x 400 mm VESA mount.
65, 55 and 48 inches
Brightness Booster, on the same OLED evo panel and with the same processor. Audio 40 W, 2.2 channels. 300 x 200 mm VESA mount.
42 inches
Brightness Booster. Audio 20 W, 2.0 channels, the only model in the range with this configuration. 300 x 200 mm VESA mount.
The SDR energy efficiency class also differs by size: D at 83 and 77 inches, E at 65 and 48 inches, F at 55 inches, G at 42 inches.
Frequently asked questions
Is the television 165 Hz or 120 Hz?
The panel is 120 Hz native. The 165 Hz figure is reached through variable refresh rate (VRR) with a source able to send that signal — in practice a PC. LG publishes the specification exactly this way: "120 Hz native (VRR 165 Hz)". For consoles the relevant limit remains 4K at 120 Hz, on any of the four HDMI ports.
Is 77 or 83 inches worth it for the brightness alone?
It depends on the room. The two large sizes are the only ones with Brightness Booster Pro and the up-to-3.2x peak, so in a very bright room during the day they hold up better. In a room with controlled light the difference matters far less, and the panel, processor, HDR formats and gaming features are identical across all six. Choose the size that suits your viewing distance first.
What is different about the 42-inch model?
One thing, but worth knowing: the audio system is 20 W across 2.0 channels, against 40 W across 2.2 channels on the rest of the range. Picture, processor, ports and gaming features are the same. Used as a monitor or in a small room the difference is negligible; as the main living-room set, a soundbar is worth considering.
Which wall mount do I need?
For 42, 48, 55, 65 and 77 inches the standard is VESA 300 x 200 mm. For 83 inches it is VESA 400 x 400 mm, so a mount bought for a smaller size will not fit. Check the weight without stand as well: from 9.8 kg at 42 inches to 28.3 kg at 83 inches.
What energy class does it have?
In SDR the class differs by size: D at 83 and 77 inches, E at 65 and 48 inches, F at 55 inches and G at 42 inches. The official energy label and product information sheet, per model, are available on the LG page for each size; we can send them on request.

* Not every feature is identical across the six sizes. Brightness Booster Pro, peak brightness up to 3.2x and Hyper Radiant Color Tech are available on the 83 and 77-inch models; the 65, 55, 48 and 42-inch models use Brightness Booster, on the same OLED evo panel, with the same alpha 11 AI 4K Gen3 processor, the same HDR formats and the same gaming feature set. The audio system is 40 W across 2.2 channels at 48, 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches, and 20 W across 2.0 channels at 42 inches. The 3.2x multiplier is a relative figure published by LG against conventional OLED televisions, measured on a 3% window using internal measurements; LG does not publish absolute brightness in nits for this series.
