No signal cable reaches the screen.

Every source plugs into the Zero Connect Box and the 4K picture travels to the panel through the air. What stays on the wall is a 9.95 mm surface and a single power cable.

In shortZero Connect Box included120 Hz native, VRR up to 165 Hz9.95 mm panel, no stand

The first thing to understand: this television comes in two pieces. There is the panel, which goes on the wall, and there is the Zero Connect Box, a separate unit included in the box, into which everything you own gets plugged — the player, the console, the set-top box, the aerial, the network. Between the box and the screen there is no signal cable at all: picture and sound travel through the air. Only power runs to the panel.

That is where the shape comes from. Because the connection electronics live elsewhere, and the power board and the speakers are built into the screen itself, the panel measures 9.95 mm across its whole back — not thin at the edges and thick in the middle, as most televisions are. LG markets it as a design in the "9 mm range"; the actual measurement they publish is 9.95 mm.

The practical consequence is that the W6 series has no stand and no standard VESA pattern. LG publishes both fields as empty in the specification table and supplies its own wall-mounting assembly instead. This is a television built for exactly one kind of installation, and that is worth discussing before the order rather than after.

Zero Connect Box: how far away it can actually sit

These are the figures anyone planning a room is looking for. In the manual LG states a range of 3 to 10 metres, and says so explicitly: only where nothing is in the way. The reach is not a sphere but depends on direction — roughly 10 metres in front of the screen, 5 metres diagonally and 3 metres to the side or below.

The link uses the 60 GHz band, chosen for its bandwidth. That same choice explains the restrictions: at this frequency the signal is strongly directional but heavily affected by obstacles. This is why LG asks that the antennas face each other and that the box be installed lower than the receiver on the television. A closed cabinet can weaken the signal, depending on the material and thickness of the furniture.

One cabling detail worth remembering: both pieces need a socket. The absence of a signal cable does not mean the panel needs no power.

The picture: what an outside party actually certified

The panel is 9th-generation OLED evo with Hyper Radiant Color technology, driven by the alpha 11 AI 4K Gen3 processor with Dual AI Engine. The supported HDR formats are Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG.

For brightness, LG claims an increase of up to 3.9 times over a conventional OLED — an internal measurement, taken on a 3 percent window. It is worth stating plainly: LG publishes no absolute nit figure for this model, so neither do we.

Several things, however, were verified by independent laboratories, and those can be quoted as such. UL verified black at or below 0.24 nits in ambient light up to 500 lux, and colour consistency above 99% under the same conditions. Intertek measured reflectance below 0.5%. The difference from an ordinary matte screen lies in the approach: the Reflection Free Premium treatment reduces reflection while preserving light transmittance, instead of absorbing and scattering it, which would turn black into grey.

    Gaming, over a wireless link

The correct way to state the refresh rate is the one LG uses itself: 120 Hz native, with VRR up to 165 Hz. The 165 Hz figure is reached through variable refresh rate and works only with games or PC inputs that support it.

The feature set is complete: G-SYNC Compatible, AMD FreeSync Premium, ALLM, HGiG, Game Optimizer with Game Dashboard, and Dolby Vision for gaming at 4K and 120 Hz. G-SYNC works with NVIDIA RTX 20, RTX 30, RTX 40 and GTX 16 cards; older cards are not compatible.

On latency, a clarification that is often confused in retail: the 0.1 ms figure LG publishes is the pixel response time, measured Gray-to-Gray and certified by Intertek. It is not input lag and should not be read as such. For the wireless transmission, LG describes the picture as visually lossless on the basis of internal testing to ISO/IEC 29170-2.

    Frequently asked questions

How far can the Zero Connect Box sit from the television?

The LG manual states 3 to 10 metres, and only where nothing is in the way. The reach depends on direction: roughly 10 metres if it sits in front of the screen, 5 metres diagonally, and 3 metres to the side or below the television. The box also has to be installed lower than the television's signal receiver.

Does it need a direct line of sight?

In practice, yes. The link runs on the 60 GHz band, which is heavily affected by obstacles, and LG asks that the antennas face each other and that nothing sit between the box and the screen. Placing it in a closed cabinet can cause interference, depending on the material and thickness of the furniture. Transmission errors caused by obstacles are not treated as faults but as an installation problem.

How many HDMI inputs does the box have, and what can they do?

Four HDMI inputs, all on the Zero Connect Box. They support 4K at 120 Hz, eARC, VRR, ALLM, QMS and QFT, with HDMI 3 carrying eARC. Alongside them are two USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, a CI+ slot, two RF inputs for aerial and cable, an optical audio output, an IR Blaster connector and an RS-232C service port. LG asks for a certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable shorter than 3 metres.

What happens to gaming latency over wireless?

LG states that the transmission is visually lossless on the basis of internal testing to ISO/IEC 29170-2, and that the link carries 4K at up to 165 Hz with VRR. This is a manufacturer claim with a declared methodology, not an independent measurement, and we present it as such. Note a frequent confusion: the 0.1 ms figure LG publishes is the pixel response time (Gray-to-Gray, certified by Intertek), not input lag. LG publishes no input lag figure for this model.

Is a wall mount included? Is there a stand?

The television ships ready for wall mounting, with LG's own mounting assembly. There is no stand, and LG lists no optional one: in the specification table, the fields for dimensions with stand and for the stand itself are published empty, as is the VESA pattern. The wall has to be of a material that can carry the weight, and the panel should be lifted by at least two people.

    What is in the box?

The panel, the Zero Connect Box, the AI Magic Remote, the wall-mounting assembly, the television's power cable (attached) and the detachable adapter for the box. Cables for external devices are bought separately.

What is the difference between the two screen sizes?

Only the physical format. Both have the same OLED evo panel, the same processor, the same refresh rate, the same 4.2-channel 60 W sound and the same Zero Connect Box. Dimensions and weight differ: 77 inch measures 1713 × 988 × 9.95 mm and weighs 20.2 kg, while 83 inch measures 1844 × 1061 × 9.95 mm and weighs 22.5 kg.

How long does it receive updates?

It runs webOS 26, and the webOS Re:New programme covers five years of free updates. Separately, LG quotes five years of panel warranty through OLED Care+. Both carry conditions stated by LG: the Re:New programme is available only on certain models, and the warranty applies under the terms of the certificate.

    * The marked values differ between the two screen sizes. All other specifications are identical on 77" and 83". The energy efficiency class is the same on both screen sizes while the consumption differs, which is why the consumption figures are marked. The values come from the official EU energy label and the product information sheet. LG publishes no separate figure for the Zero Connect Box: the sheet declares the power supply as internal, and the figures cover the product as a whole.
